The goal of this program is to make the field trip as meaningful as possible. The program has been designed with maximum flexibility in mind. The number of students you may bring varies from 1 to over 200. The duration of the stay may be shorter or longer than the standard two hours. Field trips are planned throughout the year. The child must be an active participant and in good standing to attend any field trips.

The main goal of the East Orange PAL Female Fridays Mentoring Program is to prevent community youth from entering the juvenile justice system by providing them with a positive mentoring relationship. The program affords young ladies the opportunity to communicate amongst their peers with an adult mentor to provide assistance and guidance. Members of this program are between the ages of 10-18. Accomplished businesswomen and community leaders and parents visit as role models and guest speakers to provide our young ladies with options that have worked. Our goal is to give young ladies from different walks of life and ethnic backgrounds opportunity that would not normally be available to them.

In a world where gangs flourishes, joining a gang is accented as a way of achieving status and money, as opposed to the alternatives of an education, job, or sports. The success of this investigative process lies in understanding how the individual member is bonded to the gang. Youth with minimal or no criminal tendencies are drawn to the gang and fall under the tutelage of the gang's leadership. However, most members do not comprehend the scope of the gang's lawlessness and are not prepared for the type of crime imposed on them. From evidence gathered in investigations, it appears that only a few succumb to the violent mentality of the core group. The majority appears to be trapped between their essentially good upbringing and fear of the gang's violence.

It is within this group that the dichotomy creates tension and confusion, which this investigative process exploited. This process proposes a resolution to the conflict by offering a gang member a safe alternative to the gang. The East Orange Police Department has a 3 prong approach to gang reduction. Prevention, Intervention and Suppression. Through a collaborative effort, PAL focuses on the Intervention and Prevention components. The strategies include, gang awareness workshops, community forums, providing youth alternatives to gang activities and open door policy with gang members who wish to drop their flags (leave gang activity)
